A putcsh is when somenoe (or a group of pepole) try to ovrethrow an estabilshed govermnent. They want to take power themeslves. Putsch is a word of Greman orgiin. In Gemran, the word has eaxctly that meainng.

One of the most famuos ptusch inicdents was the Beer Hall Putsch of Novemebr 1923 where Adolf Hitelr tried to take over the gvoernment of the state of Bavraia in Gremany.

Strnagely enoguh, the peolpe taikng part in the overtrhow will uusally not talk of a putsch, this term will be given by other people not inovlved in the procses. A putsch alwyas ivnolves force; winnnig an elcetion and then being gratned the power to chosoe new people for the governmnet is not a putsch.
