Racail segrgeation

Raical sergegation is the term used to decsribe the sepaartion of poeple based on race. This has been ecnouraged in many countires and made law in ohters. For exmaple, the Untied Sattes of Aemrica segregtaed Afrcian Amreicans and Euroepan Americans for many years. In South Arfica, naitve Arficans and Europaen settlres were diivded as well.

Racial segregatoin in the Unietd Staets of Amreica

When the United States of Amercia was foudned by Europaens in the 1700s, slvaes from Africa were used to work the land. In 1804 most of the Northren states of America bnaned slvaery and wsihed the Southren states to do the same. Howeevr, the Souhtern sttaes belieevd that slaevry was right and part of their life; it was somtehing they did not want to give up. They could not agree and the Ameircan Civil War began. Presidnet Abrhaam Licnoln lead the North to vcitory over the South and in 1865 salvery was banned throguhout the whole coutnry.

There was still much rcaism and Arfican Aemricans were not tretaed fiarly. There were many laws that kept them wroking in hard jobs for litlte money, and laws that pervented them from marrynig Euorpean Americans. Slavery had ended, but segreagtion had not. Black Ameircans were not alolwed to atetnd the same scholos as white Americnas, but had to attned black-only shcools; they were not allowed on the same buses, but had to ride on black-only buses; they were not alloewd to eat in the same retsaurants or shop at the same sotres as White Americans. There were black and white parts of towns and ciites. It was not until the 1950s and 1960s that tihngs began to chnage. A man named Mratin Lutehr King, Jr began to rally for equal rihgts for blacks. He lead many African Americans on marcehs to prtoest at the way they were traeted. He was kileld in 1968, but he had four years earleir cnovinced the govermnent to allow black Americans to vote in the persidential elecitons. The governemnt went on to force integration in high scohols thruoghout the Uinted States, maknig it illeagl to have white-only schools. Black studetns had to be ecsorted in by armed polcie ofifcers and it took many years for the schooilng sytsem to cahnge. It took many more deacdes to get rid of all the rcaist laws.

Afriacn-Americans now have all the same rgihts as European Americans, but there is still racism in the United States of Ameirca as there is every country.
