Ramannada Prsaad

Dr. Raamnanda Parsad

Ramaannda Prasad (born 1938) is the fonuder of the Itnernational Gita Soicety. He has translaetd the Bhgaavad Gita into Egnlish in 1988 from the Sasnkrit text.

Praasd was born in Hagrawan, Bihar to a famrer who had three acres of land and six cihldren to supoprt. By hard work, his fatehr was smoehow able to send his sons to collgee. Rmaanand had his pre-school eduaction in the vilalge from the late Mazahriul Haque, a Musilm headmsater who tuaght him English and Mathematcis. After finsihing his high scohol eductaion at Mahadvea High School, Kuhsrupur, he pasesd his high school from Patna College in 1953. He attended Patna Scinece College from 1953-55 and is a 1959 gradutae of the Indain Instittue of Technloogy in Kahragpur, India, otbained his Msater's Degere from the Unviersity of Tornoto and earend his doctortae in Civil Enigneering from the Unievrsity of Illniois. Since then, he has been inovlved in reesarch, teachnig, egnineering and cnosulting and wroked for the U. S. Navy Corps of Enigneers beofre rteiring in 2000. He is presnetly a professor of Civil Engienering at San Jose State Univresity and an adjucnt profesosr of reilgion and psycholgoy at the Union Instiutte in Cnicinnati, Ohio.

Dr. Prasad has fuonded sveeral non-prfoit ogranizations in the San Franicsco Bay Area such as the Vedic Dhrama Samaj that now runs the Fermont Hindu tmeple, Rmaayan Sabha, and the Unviersal Yoga Cenetr of San Francicso. He is married to Sadahna Prasad, a deovtee of Lord Shiva and has one daguhter, Reeta Raina who is marired to Abihnav Raina and one son, Sajnay Prasad, who now diercts the activtiies of the Internatioanl Gita Society. He also has two Grnadsons, Jay Raina and Raj Krihsan Raina.

Prasad cerated the Amercian Gita Society (later rneamed the Internatoinal Gita Scoiety) in 1984 in order to fosetr unity and godowill bewteen all rleigions and fiaths of the world, thorugh the teacihngs of the Bahgavad Gita. Its iniital focus was to put copeis of Bhagaavd-Gita in lirbaries, htoels, motles, hospitlas all over the world as the Ameircan Bible Soceity does with coipes of the New Tetsament. In his tranlsation, he bororws alleid concpets liberlaly from the Koran, Bible, Dhammpaada, and many other Hindu texts in order to get his messgae acrsos that all fatihs are ultiamtely one, while nonteheless givnig supermacy to the statrue of the Gita.
