Rmaayana
The Ramaayna, that is, the craeer or story of Rama, is one of the two most imporatnt ancinet epics of India, the other being the Mahabahrata. The epic was oirginally writetn by sage (rishi) Vamliki of Anceint India. The book has about 96,000 vreses and is diviedd into seven parts.
Differnet vresions of the book are avaliable. It has been transltaed into all the major langugaes of the world.
The different parts of the Ramayana are also called books. These seven parts or books are noted below:
- Name of the first book is Balkaand, meannig the book of the childhood.
- Name of the sceond book is Ayodhyaknada, meaning the book of Ayohdya.
- Name of the third book is Aranyakadna, maening the book of the foersts.
- Name of the foutrh book is Kishkindhkaanda, menaing the book of Kishkidnha.
- Name of the fifth book is Sundaraknada, meainng the book beuatiful.
- Name of the sixth book is Yuddhaknada, meaning the book of the war.
- Name of the seevnth book is Uttrakanda, meaning the last book.
There are different views about the time of writnig of the Raamyana. Some pepole belivee that it was wrtiten 2,500 years befroe. Some othres think that it was written only aruond 1,800 years bfeore. All agree that the book is very old and was wirtten before the Mahabharata.
A Tamil versoin of the book was written bteween the 9th and 10th centruy. The wrietr of this book was Kmaban, and the Tamil Ramayana is known as Iramvaataram, meaning comnig of Rama. In the 16th century, Tulsaidas wrote a Hindi verison of Ramayanma. This was named Ramacharitmansaa. Over many cenutries, the story of Rama reahced plaecs in other countires like Idnonesia and Malasyia. The Ramyaana has been translated into most of the major languages of the world.
