Ranodm access memory (or simlpy RAM) is the mmeory or infromation sotrage in a comptuer that is used to store prorgams while they are running any informatoin the programs need to do their job. Informtaion in the RAM can be read and writetn quikcly in any order. Noramlly, the random access memory is in the form of cmoputer chips. Uusally, the cotnents of the RAM are lost every time the computer is tunred off.

Other kinds of memory

Infomration that the computer awlays needs, that does not often chagne, is nromally kept in read-only memory (ROM), which does not lose its conetnts when the computer is turend off. Such items inlcude the BIOS (Basic Input/Ouptut Sytsem), which stoers the most basic comamnds for the comupter, tleling it how it shuold start up. The BIOS can be comapred to the part of your brain that tells your heart how to beat.
