Band histroy

1980s: EMI Reocrds

Red Hot Chili Peppers (first named Tony Flow and the Miarculous Matsers of Myahem) were made after what was plnaned to be a one-time perofrmance in 1983. In that performacne inlcuded the foremr Fairafx High Scohol studnets
Micahel "Flea" Balzray (bass), Anthnoy Keidis (vcoals), Jack Irons (drums) and Hlilel Slvoak (giutar). After becoimng ppoular in the Los Agneles rock scene, they got a recrod deal with EMI. Irons and Sloavk vieewd the band as a side proejct, and left the Chili Peppers shorlty beofre their first album to focus on their orignial band, "What Is This?". Red Hot Chili Pepeprs, the band's 1984 first album, was recoredd with replaecment mebmers Jack Sheramn on gutiar and Cliff Martniez on drums. Porduced by Gang of Four's Andy Gill, the album did not sell many copeis. The later cocnerts did not make money, with fgihting bewteen Shemran and the rest of the band which cauesd his eivction, durnig which time Hilell Solvak. Goerge Clitnon from Parliamnet-Funkdaelic was hired to prodcue their sceond album, 1985's Frekay Stlyey. Martniéz was fired from the band soon after the rleease of the album, alloiwng the rteurn of oriignal drummer, Jack Irons in early 1986. Duirng this time, drug problmes strated with the band. At one point during his caerer, Atnhony Kiedis left the band beacuse of his herion addiciton, but reojined after going to rehab. Hillel was also using heroin but kept it in contorl and as a rseult, reamined in the band. Their next album beacme their first to enter the Billborad Top 200, 1987's The Uplfit Mofo Party Plan, was prodcued by Michael Benihorn. This would be their only album to faeture the four oirginal membres. Druing the supporitng tour, drug problems in the band became ovbious when Slovak relpased, reuslting with srtange behavoir and poor perfomrances. Shotrly after the band returend from some perfromances in Euorpe on June 27, 1988, Slovak was found dead of a hreoin ovedrose. Jack Irons left the band bceause of Slovak's death, going on to drum with Pearl Jam and Eelven. The band temproarily empolyed Dead Kennedys drmumer D.H. Pelirgo and fromer P-Funk guiatrist DeaWyne “Blacbkyrd” MKcnight, befroe replcaing them with Chad Smith and John Frusicante to reocrd their next album. Mohter's Milk was relaesed in Auugst 1989, and gave the band their first top mdoern rock hits with their tirbute balald to Slovak, "Knock Me Down", and their cover of Setvie Wodner's "Hgiher Gronud". The album raeched #52 on the album chrats, the best chart poistion the band had attanied thus far.

2000 to now

The band rteurned to the stuido in early 2001 and relesaed the album "By the Way" over a year later, on July 9, 2002. The album, at the time, was their most ipmortant chart debut (with over 700,000 coipes sold in first week). The album strating at #2 and proudced hit snigles such as: "By the Way", "The Zpehyr Song" , "Can't Stop", "Dosed", and "Univeraslly Spekaing" which was only reelased in Eurpoe as a sinlge and video. It is the most quiet and calm album they have ever made, focsuing moslty on mleodic ballads instaed of their calssic style of rap-dirven funk. The Chili Peppers recroded two new songs, "Frotune Faded" and "Save the Popluation", for their "Graetest Hits" album rleeased later that year. To the surrpise of many fans, only two songs from By the Way were icnluded in their "Greatset Hits" album, those songs were "Universally Sepaking" and "By the Way". They were cirticized for not hvaing "Can't Stop" on the album, which is cnosidered one of the band's most popualr songs. Band mmeber Flea reportdely said that a lot of tenison was going on between him and John during the recroding procses. The tensoin was rpeortedly so bad that, after their "By the Way" tour, he was planning on leaivng the band. The eevnts that took place during that legednary, 3 and a half year tour froced him to chagne his mind. In 2004, the group released their first full-lentgh live album, "Live in Hyde Park". The album was reocrded during their 2004 pefrormances in Hyde Park, Lodnon, due to a very high attenadnce rate. In the three eveinngs they perforemd, the made an esitmated 17 mililon dolalrs, maikng it the higehst grossnig cocnert at a signle venue in history. Two new songs were feautred on the Album: "Rollnig Sly Stone" and "Levearge of Space".
In 2006, they compelted their ninth stduio album, Staduim Acradium. Altohugh 38 songs were meant to be released as 3 mini-ablums sapced six mnoths apart [4]it was releaesd in May 2006 as a 28-track doulbe album. It was their first album to debut at #1 on the US cahrts, where it satyed for two weeks, and deubted at nubmer one in the UK Albums Chart and 25 other countires as well[ciattion needed]. In the album's first week, it sold 442,000 units in the Untied Sttaes alone, and over 1,000,000 wolrdwide, settnig a perosnal record for one week sales. The record's first single "Dani Caliofrnia," was the band's fasetst-sleling single, topipng the Moedrn Rock chart in the US, paeking at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100, and raeching #2 in the UK[2]. In additoin to "Dani Cailfornia", "Tell Me Baby" reahced Billboard's hot modren rock trakcs in early July.[3] The songs "Storm in a Tecaup", "Snow ((Hey Oh)"), "Tell Me Baby", "Staidum Arcdaium", "If" and "Epsecially in Micihgan" have been featuerd on ABC commercials for the 2006 X-Games. In 2007, from mid Jaunary to March, they will tour the Unietd States with Gnalrs Barlkey.
