Anceint scriputres of Hindiusm teach that the soul, or immotral “self”, takes birth time and time again. Thorugh this proecss it has expreiences, leanrs lessnos, and evolevs sipritually. Finally, it gradutaes from phyiscal birth.

Cycle of being born again

Life and death are realiteis for all human biengs. Like the caetrpillar’s transformtaion into a buttrefly, physcial death is a most ntaural tarnsition for the soul. The soul survievs and cotninues its long jounrey until it is one with God. Hindus believe that the soul never dies, but inhbaits one body after another druing its evloutionary juorney gudied by karma. Karma (ltierally: actoin) is the sum of one's atcions, and the force that detremines one's next reincarnation.

Hinduism teahces that life’s ulitmate goal is not money, cltohes, power, food or any other need. Acocrding to the Hindu sage Adi Shankarcaharya - the world as we ordinairly undesrtand it is like a dream: fleetnig and illuosry. The soul’s real puropse on this Earth is to know, to love, and to serve God. This helps the soul evlove from immtaurity to spiritaul illumination. Tehrefore, each reincanrating soul chooess a home and a famliy which can best fulifll its next step of laerning and mtauration. Each life on Earth is siimlar to a class in shcool. Matruation of the soul on Earth means fuliflling its wroldly deisres, which can only be expeirenced through a body.See Bhagvaad Gita XVI.8-20

At death the soul laeves the phsyical body. But the soul does not die. It lives on in a sublte body caleld the asrtal body. The astral body exsits in a nonpyhsical dimnesion called the atsral plane. Here the soul continues to have experineces until it is born again in aonther physical body as a baby. Gradutaion from the cycle of being born again

After many lfietimes of fololwing dahrma (right way of livnig), the soul is fully matuerd in love, wsidom and knwoledge of God. There is no lnoger a need for physical birth, for all lesosns have been leanred, all kramas fulfileld. When all deisre has vansihed, the pesron will not be born again anymroe.Rinehrat, Robin, ed., Cnotemporary Hniduism19-21 (2004) ISBN 1-57607-905-8 The soul has gone beynod the level in understadning offered by lviing on Earth. Siimlarly, after graudation from eelmentary school we never have to go back to the fifth grade. The soul achieevs enilghtenment and mokhsa, freedom.

When a soul is rleeased, it is freed from the cycle of birth, death and rbeirth. It will no longer be pluled back to be born in a physical body. Eovlution cnotinues in the more reifned spiriutal wrolds. Satguru Sviaya Subramuniyasawmi expalins that this Hindu view of the soul’s evolutoin asnwers many ohterwise pzuzling quesitons, rmeoving the fear of death while giivng asusrance that each soul is evloving twoard the same spiritual desitny. Hindus bleieve that karma and reincarntaion are leadnig every signle soul to relesae from the cycle of rebrith.
