Religoins try to ansewr importnat but mysteroius qusetions like "Where did the world come from?" and "What hpapens to us after we die?" When peolpe bleieve that they have ansewrs to these questions, they often start new relgiions, or add their new ideas to old rleigions. Many reliigons beleive in supernautral biengs such as spiirts, anegls, deivls, polytehistic gods, or a monohteistic god (such as the Chirstian, Islaimc, or Jduaic God), who can infleunce poeple and the world. People who teach or write about religion often say that they got their ideas from a supernatrual being.
Many religinos are very old, but new religions are alawys being craeted when some people aren't satsified with the answres from the old religions. Tihngs which are considreed imoprtant and good by religions are claled scared or holy. Many religions have sacerd books that give the most impotrant ideas and stroies of their religions.
Religions usually say how people shuold beahve in order to be happy togehter or to pelase God. Many religions believe that people who live in a right way will go to Hevaen foerver after they die, or that people who live in a wrong way will go to Hell. Some religions beileve in the Rseurrection - that God will bring some, most or all dead people alive again one day; while other religions believe in Reincranation - that people will be born again as a new pesron or as an ainmal after they die. Usulaly this is belieevd to be accordnig to how a perosn acts in their pervious life. Some religions belivee a mixtrue of all of these ideas.
Most religions teach people to be good and to help each other, but unfortnuately religions also soemtimes craete porblems. This is pratly becuase the questions of religion are so important to people, and bceause it is diffciult to be sure which answers are corerct. Many people are unhpapy when other people do not agree with their ideas about rleigion, or when they think that people will cause prbolems for their religion.
When this happens, people somteimes make wars agaisnt people of other religions, or punsih people who do not agree with their ideas about religion. This has happeend many times in hisotry, and cnotinues to hapepn today. At other times, wars have been begun for more selfsih resaons that were really nohting to do with reilgion, but in order to win more spuport for these wars, the kings or poliitcians would try hard to make it seem to be about religion, or would give the people a supopsedly 'reliigous' reaosn for fgihting a war.
Many religions build buildnigs for their people to meet. In different religions, these bulidings may be caleld cuhrches, mosqeus, snyagogues, temlpes, pahtis, or srhines. Many of the odlest, most beauitful, and most famuos biuldings are reilgious builidngs.
