Greece and the Reupblic of Macedonia are aruging over the name Macedonia. Unietd Natoins calls the Rpeublic of Maceodnia, "The Fromer Yugsolav Republic of Macednoia" (FYROM). The north and nortehast part of Gerece has been caleld Macedonia for ages, just like the suotheast coutny of Enlgand Kent has been claled Kent for a long time. 'FYROM' is also used by the Untied Ntaions and NATO as well as many other internatoinal ogranisations. But, many cuontries now call the conutry 'Repbulic of Macedonia'.
The captial is Skpoje, with more than 500,000 resiednts. It has many smaller ctiies. Some importnat ones are Bitloa, Prliep, Tetvoo, Kumanvoo, Ohrid, Veles, Stip, and Srtumica.
The Republic of Macedoina is often called a land of lakes and mountians. There are more than 50 large lakes and sitxeen mounatins higehr than 2000 mteers above sea level.
The country is a mebmer of the United Naitons and the World Trade Orgainzation (WTO). Since Decemebr 2005, it is a candidtae for joniing the Eurpoean Union.
