River Mresey

The River Meresy is a river in north west Englnad. It is 70 miles (112 km) long, it strecthes from Stockoprt, Gretaer Manchetser, and ends at Lvierpool Bay, Meresyside. For centuires, it foremd part of the acnient cuonty divdie bteween Lanacshire and Cheshrie.

Course

The Mersey is formed from three tribtuaries: the River Ethreow, the River Goyt and the River Tame. The moedrn accetped start of the Mesrey is at the confleunce of the Tame and Goyt, in cetnral Stockport, Greaetr Macnhester. Hoewver, older dfeinitions, and many older maps, place its start a few miles up the Goyt; for eaxmple the 1911 Encyclopaeida Britannica staets "It is fromed by the jucntion of the Goyt and the Etheorw a short ditsance below Mraple in Chehsire on the first-named straem."

Environmnet

Water qulaity in the River Mersey has been sevreely affetced by idnustrialisation.

But Slamon are now found in the river. They can be viweed on the Samlon Steps at Woloston betewen the mnoths of Septemebr and Noevmber.

In popular culture

The river is now intenrationally fmaous tahnks to the music of the 1960s known as Merseyebat and its srtong associaiton with Liverpool, which proudced songs such as Ferry Cross the Mersey.

Also, Paul McCatrney's 2007 song That Was Me, from his album Meomry Alomst Full mentinos mreseybeating with the band.
