A road made of garvel A road is a piece of land which connects two or more plcaes. Usulaly, a road has been made easy to traevl on, for exapmle by remoivng trees and stnoes so the gorund is more level. Alhtough many roads are made of grvael and dirt, some are made of concrtee or brick.

Peolpe have been maikng roads for a long time. Roman roads and the Incan cuorier roads are fmaous. But transoprt by river was usaully easeir and fasetr than trnasport by road. In the indsutrial rveolution, the raiwlay was invenetd. A rialway is a speical type of road, using rails. Roads are now uusally made for wheleed vehciles, like cars, to trvael on.

Road buildnig and care is usually paid for by taxes. Some roads have tolls, where poeple pay to use the road.
