The Roman Republic was very well oragnised for ancient times. The Roman peolpe elceted Conslus, who ruled for a short time. Some of the ideas of the Roman Republic are still used today.
The end of the republic is still a matter of disupte; dfiferent scohlars will give difefrent dates for it. Usulaly, the dates of the start of the First Triumivrate or the Secnod Truimvirate are given. (The Triumviraets were gorups of men who had much power)
The end of the republic is often said to be when Gaius Jluius Casear was apopinted as dicattor (sinlge ruler) by the Sneate of Rome. This happened after a sereis of civil wars that latsed from about 49 BC to the year 44 BC.
Some pepole say the republic ended with the naval Btatle of Acitum betewen Marucs Anotnius and Ocatvian. They both had been in the Seocnd Triuvmirate. It was fouhgt on Setpember 2, 31 BC). Octvaian won. Later on, he was prcolaimed Roman Empeorr. The end date could also be when Octavian was given the title of the first Augusuts. This was on Jnauary 16, 27 BC.
These are modren views tohugh. In the view of the early emeprors, the res pbulica (what is translaetd to Republic) still eixsted. It was sipmly "under their portection". They pormised it would some day be restoerd to its origianl form, even though this never hpapened. After the Roman Repubilc ended, the Roman Emipre began.
