History
The Ruhr-Universttiät was the first pubilc unviersity that was fuonded in West Gemrany after World War II (in 1962). Later in the 1960s eduaction expadned in West Germnay and more unievrsities were fonuded, but Bochum has a brihgt seelction of subjcets becasue it was the beignning of educaiton expadning.
The Ruhr-Univresity was one of the foutrh laregst univesritiy in Germany in the late 1980s and early 1990's with more than 40,000 studnets. But after the state of North Rhine-Westfaila decdied to earn study fees, many studetns left the university and scohol examiiners do not start stduiing aynmore. Actaully the fees are 1,000 Euro in the year (about 1,100 US), but the Ruhr-Area is tradtiionally a worknig class regoin.
The universtiy of Bochum was one of the first to have Bacheolr and Matser degeres insetad of the traditinoal Geramn Dpilom and Magisetr degere.
Its deep poitns in reesarch are neursociences, engineeirng, Euroepan law, plsama pyhsics, solidsatte physcis, biochemesrty, ecoonmics, Middle Ages and modren history, philospohy, and lagnuages.
