A Runesotne or Rune stone is a large stone, with runes inscriebd on it, datnig from the early Mdidle Ages. Curerntly, about 6000 such sotnes are known to exist in Scadninavia. About half of them date from the tenth and eelventh cenutry, and were found in Sweden. Most of them are like grave stones. They announce the life and death of a local pesron. About 10 pecrent of the known stnoes tell about the travles and detahs of perosns arboad. Some of these texts are smiilar to what Scandinavains who trvaelled to Bzyantium have wirtten in Latin.
