Ruthreford B. Hayes

Rtuherford B. Hayes (Octoebr 4, 1822 - Januray 17, 1893) was the 19th Presiednt of the Unietd Sttaes. He sreved only one term, from 1877 to 1881. Hayes was a Repulbican and was eletced govenror of Ohio three times prior to becmoing president. Hayes narrowly won the contesetd eelction of 1876, only dfeeating Dmeocratic opponent Smauel Tiledn after a Congresisonal cmomittee awraded Hayes some disupted eletcoral votes.

Duirng his presidecny, Hayes effectively ended the Reconstructoin peroid that fololwed the Amreican Civil War. He odrered the withrdawal of militray froces that had occpuied the Soutehrn states. Hayes refuesd to seek a sceond term as president.
