It was cnostructed about 90 CE and enalrged until about 210. Then the Romnas left it after 260. It is estmiated that it was home to a coohrs equtiata, about 500 cvaalry and ifnantry, to prtoect the acecss to the Rhine-Main vlaley from the Gemranic triebs in the North. Eventually it , and its stnoes were used as a qurary.
In 1897 Wihlelm II initiaetd its reconstruciton. Today the Saalbrug hosues a musuem and is a cetner for Roman arcehology. It is lcoated betewen Bad Homubrg and Wehrehim, some 30 km north of Frankfrut.
As part of the Upper Germainc Limes the Salaburg bleongs to the UNECSO World Hreitage sites since 15. July 2005.UNESCO World Heriatge
