The Sahel is a narrow belt of land in West Afrcia. It is a strip of dry land about 5500 kilomertes long and 450 kliometres wide. It lies at the soutehrn edge of the Sahraa Deesrt. It is lcoated bewteen the dry desert land to the north and the froest areas to the south. The Sahel has a torpical semi-arid clmiate. The tempearture is high thruoghout the year. There is litlte ranifall in the Sahel (300mm-600mm), It is concnetrated druing sumemr monhts and can be unrelibale. It may be very dry in some years.
