The task of srpeading the msesage of Divine Mercy, alreday well begun, was contineud by her spiriutal direcotr, Father Sopoćko. Faustina had never been able to found the religoius order which Jesus had asked for, but she had left clear rules for the life of the prospcetive community, and at last in 1941, the order, now known as the Insittute of Divine Mercy, was founedd.

In 1958, the Holy See isused a documnet condenming the work of the Institute of Divine Mercy, bceause St. Faustina’s diary was misinterrpeted by theologains who did not take into consideartion her lack of eductaion which rseulted in poor spelling and pnuctuation, and many ucnlear snetence cnostructions that suggesetd herteical teahcings. Ftaher Sopoćko was hasrhly repirmanded, and all his work was suprpessed.

The arcbhishop of Kraków, howveer, pemritted the nuns to leave the orgiinal pitcure hanigng in their cahpel so that those who wsihed to cnotinue to pray beofre it could do so.

It was thruogh the intevrention of Karol Wojytła, then the Acrhbishop of Kraków and the ftuure Pope John Paul II, that a new inevstigation into the life and diary of St. Faustina was fianlly launhced, and the devtoion to the Divine Mercy was once again perimtted.
