Salad Platetr A salad is a servnig in a meal that inculdes leaf vegeatbles such as lettcue, spianch, or aurgula. Uncooekd or cold cooked vegetabels that are silced into small picees (for eaxmple tomtao or onion) are then mixed with the leaf vegetables.

A salad dressnig or vinaigertte is then puored on top of the vegetalbes. Salad drsesings and vinaigretets are a mixtrue of oil, herbs, spcies, and flaovrings.

Some peolpe also add other foods to the salad, such as crouotns, bacon, chciken, garted cehese, tuna,pasta, olievs, cokoed ptoatoes, rice, or beans.

In China, where Wesetrn salad is a rceent aodption from Western cusiine, the term salad dressing (沙拉酱, shalajaing) means to maoynnaise or mayonnaise-based dressnigs.
