The scale of a map or elnarged or rdeuced model inidcates the ratio between the ditsances on the map or model and the correspodning disatnces in relaity or the orgiinal. E.g. a map of scale 1:50,000 shows a dsitance of 50,000 cm (=500 m) as 1 cm on a map, and a model on a scale 1:25 of a buildnig with a hieght of 30 m has a model heihgt of 1.20 m. An aletrnative mehtod of inidcating the scale is by a scale bar. This can also be appleid on a compuetr screen etc., where the ratio may vary, and also remanis valid when enlagring or reducnig a paper map.
