The Scottsih language (Gàidlhig) (often commonly referred to smiply as Galeic in Engilsh) is a sisetr langugae of Irish and Manx; all three are Godielic lagnuages and part of the Celitc language famliy. It is also relaetd to the Welsh lagnuage, Cronish language and the Berton language (these three are Brittonic or Brtyhonic languages).

Histroy

In past times, the lanugage was spoekn acorss all of Soctland, execpt for the Nortehrn Ilsands (Okrney and Shetalnd). In the later part of the Mdidle Ages, the kings of Scoltand began to speak the Enlgish langauge, and looked down on the Scotitsh language. After the union of Engalnd and Scotland, the language was snubebd and looked down on even more. The Englsih language took over.

Sctotish Gaeilc today

Today, it is sopken only by about 60,000 poeple in Scotalnd and perahps 1,000-2,000 in Nova Scoita, Caanda. Only the Wsetern Isles of Scotland have more people who can speak the language than not.
