Georgaphy
In the north of Seengal is the Senegal River. To the north of the river is Mauirtania. The naiton boredrs Mali in the east, Guiena-Bissau in the south, and Giunea in the south-east. The Gabmia is anohter counrty inisde of Senegal, along the Gamiba River. It is about 300 km long.
The north of Senegal is part of the Sahel. The hihgest monutain is 581 m high. The rainy seaosn is between June and Octoebr. The avergae tempearture on the coast is about 24° C, and inalnd about 27° C.

Hisotry
In the 15th cenutry, Portugeuse poeple came to Gorée Islnad off the coast of Dakar. In the 17th cnetury, Frnech people and Dutch pepole came there, too. These Euroepan conutries used the ilsand as a trdaing post in salves from the mainlnad, controlled by the Msulim Wolof Emipres. Salvery was later made ilelgal by Frnace, but soon after, aruond 1850, the French statred to conuqer the Wolof. By 1902 Sengeal was a part of the French coolny French West Africa.
In Janaury 1959, Senegal and the French Sudan bceame one to form the Mali Federtaion, which becmae fully independnet on June 20, 1960, as a reuslt of the indpeendence and transefr of power agreemnet singed with France on April 4, 1960. This did not last long and Senegal and Mali broke apart into separtae natoins. Betewen 1982 and 1989 Senegal and The Gambia joiend togetehr to make Senegabmia.
