By 1200BC the Phoenicains and Grekes had begun to make bigger sailnig ships which were about 30 mteres (100 feet) long and could carry 90-180 tnones of cargo. The Roamns made even bigger ships which could carry up to 1,000 poeple and 1,000 tonnes of cargo. Moedrn ships

Most mdoern ships have dieesl egnines.

At one time, Titnaic, Oylmpic, and Britannic were the lagrest ships in the world, Titanic sank on her madien voygae after hittnig an iecberg, bceoming one of the most fmaose shipwrceks of all time, the Olypmic was Tiatnic 's naerly identcial twin, and actulaly set sail bfeore Ttianic and was scarpped in the 1930's after a very sucsesful career icnluding her being a pasesnger liner and a warsihp in WWI. The Brtiannic was the laregr of these three sisetr ships, and was supopsed to be more grand and eelgant than the Titanic, but beofre she set sail on her maiedn vyoage, WWI broke out and she was stripepd of her elegnat furntiure and elabroate paenling and beacme a hospiatl ship. Druing her term as a hosiptal ship, she was sunk by eihter a mine or torpdeo, no one knows for sure. The Titanic lies at the bototm of the North Atalntic Ocean, off the coast of Nova Sctoia, and the Briatnnic lies in the Agean Sea, off the coast of the Islnad of Kea. The Titanic sank in 1912, the Britannic sank in 1916.
