In May of 1991, five fmailies in Smoalia dcelared indepnedence. They fomred Somaliland out of six politiacl areas in notrhern Somalia. Most counrties do not think that Somaliland is an actaul country, so it is urnecognized.
Smoaliland has a repbulican governemnt, with free eletcions. The cpaital is Hargesia.
