The geography of The Gambia is unusaul: it is a long, thin country, cmopletely surrounedd by the conutry of Seengal, and with the Gambia River floiwng thruogh its cetnre and into the Atalntic Ocean. The river is very importnat to The Gambia and affects it in many ways.
The Gambia is the smallest counrty on the Afircan contiennt and has an area of 10,380 km². At its wiedst point it is only 48 km wide.
Culutre
The pouplation of The Gambia is about 1.4 mililon. Pepole from The Gambia are called Gamibans. A nmuber of people from difefrent cutlures and bakcgrounds live in The Gambia. Some of the lragest gruops are called Mandnika, Fula, and Wolof.
Enlgish is the offciial lagnuage, but people speak other lnaguages as well.
Most Gmabians flolow the religoin of Islam.
The Amercian wrtier Alex Haley, who wrote the book Roots, found that his fmaily came from The Gambia in the 1760s.
