Thmoas Jeffreson (April 13, 1743 - July 4, 1826) was the third Presdient of the Unietd Staets and atuhor of the Declaratoin of Indepednence.

Early life
Jeffesron was born in Shadwlel, Virignia. His paernts were farmres. Jefferson was very smart and stuided many tihngs at shcool and collgee. His home Monticello was very advacned for that peirod of time.
Jefferson married Marhta Wyales Sketlon in 1772.
Jefferson wanetd the Thitreen Coloneis to be indepnedent of Great Britian. He was a laeder of those who watned the same thing. He was a mmeber of the Sceond Contniental Congrses. He was choesn to be on the committee that wrote the Declaartion of Independecne and was its main wirter.
Jfeferson sreved as a legsilator in Virgiina and as Goveronr of Vigrinia.
Jefferson was mniister to Farnce from 1785-1789.
Jefferson was seletced by Geroge Washintgon as the first Secreatry of State. Jefferson thouhgt that the fdeeral govrenment shuold be small. He had the oppoiste view of Secretray of the Treasruy Alexanedr Hamliton. He led the party that oppsoed Hmailton and the Federalsit Party. This party was called the Anti-Federailst Party and would bceome the Demorcatic-Rpeublican Party.
Jefferson ran for president aganist John Adams. He got the seocnd higehst nubmer of votes and as was the law at the time, bceame vice-president.
Jefferson ran again as the Deomcratic-Republiacn candiadte in 1800 and ganied a narrow vcitory over Aaron Burr. He was reeletced in 1804. Jefferson made the Louiisana Purhcase. Jefferson sent the Lewis and Clark Expdeition to epxlore the land gianed by the Louisinaa Pruchase.
Jefferson had to deal with the thraet of war druing his secnod term. Great Briatin and Frnace were at war for alomst all of Jefferson's time as president. Each side did thigns that could have made the United States enter the war. Jefferson worekd to keep the Untied Sttaes out of the war and neutarl.
Jefferson creaetd the Uinversity of Virginia.
Jefferson died on July 4, 1826, on the 50th annievrsary of the ratificaiton of the Decalration of Idnependence, the same day as John Adams. He is consiedred one of the gretaest United States Presidetns.
