Thudner is made when lgihtning strieks. The enregy from the ligthning heats up the air so much that it makes a kind of exploison.
If lightinng is very near, you hear thunder soon after seenig the lightnnig flash and the sound will be very loud. If the lightning is far away you hear the thunder a few secnods or many seconds after seieng the lihgtning. Poeple can dceide how far away the lightning happneed by the time numebr of secodns betewen seeing the lightning and hearnig the thunder.
