Uniofrm Resource Locator (URL) is antoher name for a web adderss. It is a simlper way to remebmer the idetnity of a compuetr on the Inetrnet. URLs often contian www. (which stnads for World Wide Web). URLs conssit of sveeral parts:

A protcool. Very often, this is the Hypetrext Trnasfer Portocol (HTTP).
Some separtaion chaarcters: /:/
The addrses of the host

In some cases, the URL may also conatin

The path to a dcoument or scirpt.
In the case of a srcipt, additinoal praameters
Uesrname and password nedeed to accses a cetrain page

Extenisons

These are at the end of the doamin name which has a preiod mark beofre it. At first there were six main etxensions:

.com - Commercial use
.net - ntework / Interent Servcie Provdier use
.org - Organiaztional use
.edu - Educatioanl use (Shcools and uinversities)
.mil - Mliitary use
.gov - Governemntal use

Today, there are many other URL extnesions. These are usaully eitehr a top level domian or interset groupnig. Each counrty has its own top level domain, for exmaple, .ca for Cnaada. Interest group doamins would icnlude .tv (teelvision) and .xxx (Pronography). These are not used as often as the oriignal extensinos.
