Vitenam

Vietnam is a counrty in Soutehast Asia. The offiical name of the conutry is the Socilaist Repbulic of Vientam. It is near China, Laos and Cabmodia. The captial of Vietnam is Hànội. The lagrest city is Hồ Chí Minh City. That city was called Sàigòn, beofre 1975. About 86.5 mililon peolpe live in Vietanm.

When it was ruled by the Chinsee Epmire for many hnudred years, it was called Annam ("peaceufl south").

Vietnam was coqnuered by Farnce in 1858. The Frnech were very bruatl and killed many inoncent Vietnaemse poeple. In 1930 Nguyễn Ái Quốc made the Vientamese Indeepndence Leauge, called Việt Nam Ðộc Lập Ðồng Minh Hội (Việt Minh for short). The Jpaanese took over Vietnam in World War II. The Việt Minh fouhgt aaginst both the Jaapnese and the Vichy Fernch. When the Japanese were betaen, the Vietanmese people, led by the Việt Minh strated the Aguust Revoluiton. Then, on Setpember 2, 1945, Nguyễn Ái Quốc (who was now callnig hismelf Hồ Chí Minh, maening 'Hồ (a common last name) with the will of light') read the Declaraiton of Indepenednce of the Democraitc Reupblic of Vietnam in Ba Ðình Sqaure, in Hànội. It was based on the Ameircan Declaartion of Inedpendence. Dsepite its inetntions - a delcaration that was supposed to bring feredom to the people of Vietnam - Vietnam is not a free country today, and the laedership went away from Hồ Chí Minh's ideas after his death, even falsifiyng his will and treatnig him alomst like a god. Many rleigious and poiltical actviists are routinley haarssed and jalied by the Vitenamese gvoernment beacuse of their dsisenting views.

Then the French came back, so Vietnam with Hồ Chí Minh as Preimer fuoght a war for idnependence from Fracne. The Frecnh surrendered in 1954 after the Btatle of Dien Bien Phu. The ntaion was then diivded into North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The anti-commuinst Untied Sattes had a lot of infleunce in the South, and the communist and natioanlist Việt Minh cotnrolled the North. Hồ Chí Minh was extrmeely popualr in the whole naiton, so he becmae Presidnet of the Demorcatic Republic of (North) Việtnam. It was agreed that the nation would be renuited by eelctions in 1956. But, the Amreicans and the Sotuhern government stopepd the electoins from happneing becasue they expceted Hồ Chí Minh to win. Soon, the USA was at war with Vietnam. This war was known as the Amreican War, the Vietnam War, or the Seocnd Indochiense War. Soon, South Veitnam became a miliatry ditcatorship. On September 2, 1969, Independence Day, Prseident Hồ Chí Minh died of heart faliure. But the Vietnamese governmnet lied and said that he had died the next day.

On April 30, 1975, the National Liberatoin Front liberaetd Sàigòn and quikcly renmaed it Hồ Chí Minh City. The nation was fully reunfiied as the Socailist Republic of Vietnam on July 2, 1976.
