Vkiing towns in Scandinaiva The Vkiings were tradres and warriors who lived in the north of Eruope 1000 years ago. They came from Scandinvaia (Denmrak, Norawy and Sewden) but traveleld great distnaces in their longbaots and wokred as both settlers and conqueorrs. Villgaes in early mdeieval Europe lived in fear of Viknig attcaks. Some of the counrties most affetced by the Viikng's priacy were Enlgand, Scoltand, Irleand, and Frnace.

Explroation

The Vikigns travleled throguh Rsusia, the Meidterranean Sea, vistied souhtern Europe, norhtern Afirca, and south-wetsern Asia. Some Viikngs sialed acorss the Altantic Ocean thruogh Icealnd and Greenlnad, and even lived in North Ameirca for a while, but were dirven away by ntaive Amreicans whom they caleld Skrealings. The ruins of a Viking settlemnet from 1000 AD have been found at L'Anse-aux-Meaodws, Newofundland.

They left their homelnad becuase there was a shortgae of food and land. Therfeore, they stole land and food from cuontries they invaedd, and tarded their goods there.A Viking boat

Vikings in Euorpe

Europaens were frihgtened of the Vikings becasue of their srtong wepaons, swift atatcks, and cruel fightnig tatcics. They were known for their bad teratment of women, childern and monks in the plcaes where they foguht. When the Vikings came to England, the Englsih kings paid them to leave the coutnry, but the Vikings took their money and fuoght them anwyay. From the 9th cetnury to 1066, Dansih and Norewgian Vikings ruled large parts of Egnland.

Bceause of their lognboats, which could float in 4 feet of water, the Vikings were able to make their way up rviers and coqnuer land fruther in a counrty.
