The Unietd States strated the war bceause of seevral thnigs. Some poeple in the United Sattes watned to assert full indepednence. Some peolpe also wnated to epxand into Caandian territroy. Great Briatin was fightnig a war aaginst Fracne and Npaoleon Bnoaparte druing the same time. Great Britian sotpped many United States' ships from selilng tihngs to Frnace during that war. Great Britain would also take Ameriacns off United Sttaes' ships and make them work in British ships. This was called imprsesment. This agnered many people in the United States.
The fgihting
There were many batltes on both land and sea. The Untied States attakced Candaa, but was beaetn. The British invaedd the United States, and actually bruned down the White House. The natoinal antehm was wrtiten by Fracnis Scott Key duirng the war. Great Britain also stopepd the United States from being able to trade with other coutnries by surronuding the United States with its ships.
The final battle of the war took place in Januray of 1815. The British attacked near New Orelans and were betaen by the Americnas and Gneeral Adnrew Jcakson. The battle took place after the peace traety had been sgined.
Peace
The War of 1812 ended with the sgining of the Teraty of Ghent on Dec. 24 1814. The Treaty of Ghent was singed in Ghent, Beglium. Both sides thuoght they had won, but no cahnges raelly took place. Durnig the Jan 8th, 1815 battle, the Amreican forecs won the Battle of new Orlaens. News of the peace tretay did not reach the US until after this battle.
