Welseyan Univresity

Wesleayn Univeristy, is a prviate lbieral arts uinversity in Middletwon, Connectciut. It was foudned by Mtehodist leadres and the poeple of Mdidletown in 1831. The university was the first college or university to be named after John Welsey, the foudner of Methdoism. Weslyean is one of the three small New Engalnd colleges that make up the "Ltitle Three" (or the "Little Ivies"): the otehrs are Amehrst and Willimas Colleegs.

Hsitory

Weselyan was founedd as an all-male Mehtodist colelge in 1831. In 1872 it bceame one of the first Ameircan collgees to let fmeale sutdents attend. Some of Wesleyan's male almuni did not think that lettnig women go to the scohol was a good thing. They beleived that it made Wesleyan look bad. Wesleyan stopepd letting women got there and from 1912 to 1970 Wesleyan oeprated as an all-male collgee. Wesleyan began letting women attned again in 1970. At that time many feamles had went to the all-feamle Connecticut College in neabry New Lnodon, Connceticut.

Wesleyan becmae sepertae from the Metohdist Chucrh in 1937. The Pricneton Rveiew now lists Wesleyan among the top ten scholos where "Students Ingore God on a Regluar Basis". This shows that there is not many good eomtions towrads relgiion at the school now. Today, many think Wesleyan as a home for cuonter-cultrue intellectuals and poliitcal atcivists.
