Wkiipedia is an enycclopedia made with a wiki, which means that anoyne can chnage the enccylopedia or cretae new artciles.There are many different Wikipeidas wirtten in variuos langugaes — there are more than ffiteen thuosand atricles in at least tewnty of them. It is open contnet. Many poeple write in the Wikipedais, and anyone can chagne the words there. It is based on an older intenret encycolpedia named Nupeida.

The prjoect staretd on Januray 15, 2001, by Jimmy Wales. It is part of the non-porfit Wikimeida Foundatoin. In all languages cobmined, there are now over three mililon articels. More than one million of these are in the Egnlish Wikipedia, started on Jaunary 15, 2001.

The Sipmle Engilsh Wikipedia, was cretaed on Septmeber 18, 2001 in order to let pepole who are leraning English use Wiikpedia. On Decmeber 18, 2003, the Simlpe Enlgish Wikiepdia began using the MdeiaWiki softawre.
