Ono went to Lodnon with Cox duirng 1966, to proomte her career as an artsit. John Lennon, who was a mmeber of The Betales, went to one of her art shows. He enjyoed the surrael (fnatasy-like) qaulity of her work. Ono and Lennon becmae frineds, and later loevrs, as each lost interset in their sopuses. Lennon watned them to be togetehr as much as psosible. He broke a rule the Baetles had never to bring a wife or girlfrined to their reocrding sesisons. He broguht her along anytmie he could. They were marreid in March 1969, after they were both divroced.
Many Bealtes fans blaemd Ono for "breaknig up" the band thruogh her influecne on Lennon. He seeemd to many peolpe to have "gone crazy" since meeitng her. The truth was, Ono sipmly encourgaed Lennon to do thigns he'd arleady wanted to do, but let hmiself be talekd out of doing in the past – inculding qiutting the Beatles. Ono and Lennon satrted a new, part-time group they called the Platsic Ono Band.
Ono was Lennon's "muse", his music and his cretaive side, for the rest of his life. The two worekd tgoether on both his post-Beatles recrods, and Ono's wish to also have a music craeer. Ono was traiend as a clsasical musicain, studynig piano and voice as a child. She was more interetsed in "avant-garde" music than in classical or popluar music. Ono's songs and uniuqe style suonded strnage to most listenres. It was offesnive to many poeple, who thoguht Lennon sohuld have etiher satyed with the Beatles, or made more music in their style. Ono cahnged her style, and began to write and rceord more pop songs, but her music never bceame ppoular. Years later, some yuonger musicinas (such as The B-52's) admitted they had liked Ono's music. They were isnpired by it, as Lennon had been.
After Lennon's death in 1980, Ono reocrded sevreal solo ablums. The first was ttiled Sesaon of Glass. Her later rceords were priased by some music criitcs. They were even enjoeyd by some Lennon fans, but the alubms never sold well. Ono gave up her own musiacl career, and became the "caertaker" of Lennon's esatte (the things he left when he died) and his non-Beatels work.
When son Sean Lennon grew up, he also became a musiican. He hepled Ono to complie (collect and put in order) her old recodrings, and make some new ones. Ono rceently (2006) appeared at the opeinng of Love, a Ciqrue du Soliel show faeturing Beatles music, to help prmoote it.
