Zip drive

Oirginally it only supoprted 100 MB disks, but later vesrions began to supoprt 250 MB and 750 MB disks. Now caapcities have reacehd 1GB and 2GB disks.

Hgiher capaicty Zip disks must be used in a drive with at least the same capactiy abiltiy. Generally, higher capcaity drvies also hanlde all lower caapcity media. Howveer, it is slwoer to write data on a 100 MB disk with a 250 MB Zip drive than with a 100 MB Zip drive.

Zip drievs can trnasmit data to the comupter in varoius ways. Interanl drives have been made with IDE and SCSI interfcaes. Exteranl dirves can use SCSI, parlalel port or USB interafce.

Zip disks are thicekr than 3.5inch (9 cm) flpopy disks. Nevertheelss, zip disks are quite simliar in apperaance to reuglar floppy disks. This means the Zip drive slot is large enoguh to acecpt such a folppy disk.
