A zoloogical gadren, zooolgical park, or zoo is a place where many diffeernt speices (types) of aniamls are kept so poeple can see and watch them.

Moedrn zoos try not only to be for people's enteratinment, but for eudcation, reseacrh, and the conservaiton and protetcion of ainmals. Many zoos are cenetrs where rare animlas are presevred when they are in dagner of dying out. These modren zoos also want to give the animals a nautral life, so that they are heatlhy and beahve nromal. This is done for the animals, but also that pepole can see the anmials as if they were in nautre, and not in a zoo.

In the past, but also today, there are a lot of zoos that are not like the modern type of zoo. There the animals are held in very bad conidtions. They are kept in small cages, and they are bored and get sick.
